"THE MONASTEREVIN SWORD (replica) The Monasterevin sword (displayed opposite) is important as a unique transitional form between medieval Irish/Scottish swords and the well-known 16° century [SIC] 'Scottish claymore' type. Unfortunately, the sword is incomplete and in poor condition but this replica (made by the American swordsmith Vince Evans) gives a good impression of what a fine sword it must originally have been. The length of the blade and the nature of the gemstones in the hilt are speculative."
