"THE MONASTEREVIN SWORD (replica)  The Monasterevin sword (displayed opposite) is important as a unique transitional form between medieval Irish/Scottish swords and the well-known 16° century [SIC] 'Scottish claymore' type.  Unfortunately, the sword is incomplete and in poor condition but this replica (made by the American swordsmith Vince Evans) gives a good impression of what a fine sword it must originally have been.  The length of the blade and the nature of the gemstones in the hilt are speculative."

"Iron sword  This hilt must have been part of a fine sword.
The four-lobed terminal of the crossguard resembles those of the 16th century Scottish 'claymore' swords.
This sword may be a transitional form between the 15th and 16th century types.
