"Luis Jiménez (American,  1940-2006)  Rose Tattoo, 1983  Lithograph ...
In the late 1970s, Jiménez began a series of images incorporating lowriders.  Rose Tattoo was inspired by a lowrider wedding Jiménez and his daughter witnessed in El Paso, Texas.  In 1979, Jiménez returned to his native El Paso to assist his father in his sign shop.  This lithograph was a collaborative process between Jiménez and his daughter, who made the sketches that later evolved into Rose Tattoo.   Jimenez [SIC] has commented that this print 'was based on a '47 Plymouth or Chevrolet which we saw that actually had a bar built into the back seat.
My daughter Elisa then developed this fantasy situation of the man and the woman in the back seat.'"
