"Comb making was big business in Viking York. The city's craftspeople produced a unique style. Decorated combs were highly prized by their owners and were often repaired rather than thrown away. Cases were even made to protect the fragile and finely cut teeth, which were particularly good for delousing and detangling. Antler blanks, roughouts, combs and cases Clifford Street, York AD 866-1066 (Viking)"
