"Edward, Prince of Wales 1925 John Saint Helier (1868-1944) Oil on canvas In this portrait, Edward's pairing of formal grey trousers, white shirt and dark tie, with a tweed flat cap and brightly patterned Fair Isle sweater demonstrates how he flouted dress conventions. He took a Scottish workwear garment into his leisure wardrobe. This informality, even including his pet dog, was typical of his subversive approach to portraiture.
