"Serpent-form headdress ornament (sanggori)
Serpent-form headdress ornament (sanggori) with human figure
Indonesia: Central Sulawesi, Palu or Kulawi area 19th century Brass ...
The bold spiral of the serpent-form headdress ornament called sanggori is at once vigorous and elegant. The sanggori is often described as a magical armor against physical and mystical forces. The bright gleam of its highly polished surface was thought to blind rival warriors and exorcize demons. The ornament was sometimes inserted in the top of a funeral mask, and in certain areas it was worn by aristocratic men and women during ritual dances."
