"SANDATAHANES / BOLOMEN 1896-1902 Those Filipino patriots who have no guns used to support the revolution & fight both Spanish & American enemies using bolo since the Katipunan until the end of the Philippine American War. [SIC] Filipinos were known as great & notorious bolo fighters using different styles of martial arts like Arnis, etc... One of the great battle [SIC] won by the Filipino bolo fighters was the 'Battle of Pulang Lupa' in 1899 which the out numbered [SIC] Filipinos in terms of arms & man power [SIC] comprised of 38 men under Col. Maximo Abad defeated 100 well armed American troops under Capt. Shields. After the battle only 10/38 Filipinos died vs. 40/100 American died. [SIC] The rest of the Americans surrendered & some of them joined the Filipino ranks & fought for the Filipino cause."
