"Navaja (folding knife)
Spanish, probably 19th century
Iron; brass; wood; paint ...
The navaja is a folding knife Spanish origin with roots in the Late Middle Ages. Irrespective of social status or class distinction, it was an integral part of Iberian life, and is frequently mentioned in regional literature.  Navajas vary in size, ranging from just over a foot to more than four feet in length. Oversize examples such as this one, however, must be of purely ornamental nature."
