The Court collars or chaozhu, based on the Buddhist rosaries (mala), 
were only used by the nobility and imperial officials from the fifth degree and above.  
Their use was most probably introduced by the first Emperor of the Qing Dynasty, 
Shunzhi (1638-1661?) who was a deeply devout Buddhist."
