"Qaraqoyunlu ascendancy ended with the death of Jahanshah in 1467 at the hands of Uzun Hasan (r.1457-78) of the Aqqoyunlu ('White Sheep') Turkmen confederation centred in Diyarbakir and eastern Anatolia. Uzun Hasan's victory over the Qaraqoyunlu was followed in 1469 by the defeat of Abu Sa'id (r.1451-69), the most successful Timurid ruler of the mid 1400s. From 1470 the Timurid and Aqqoyunlu Turkmen dynasties divided control of Iran between them in a reluctant peace. Both rulers -- the Timurid Sultan Husain (r.1469-1506) and Uzun Hasan (and his sons) -- made their courts vibrant centres of culture with numerous exchanges occurring between them."
