"Ballock dagger Probably English, late 14th-early 15th century The dagger formed a common part of military equipment. The ballock dagger appeared in the late 14th century and took its name from the two large lobes or balls at the base of the grip and and [SIC] their resemblance to male genitalia. In the 19th century more prudish collectors renamed them 'kidney-daggers'."
