"Gauntlet for the left [sic] hand Possibly English, about 1370
This main plate of the gauntlet is in one piece. It is of 'hour glass' form,
introduced about 1350 and which was in wide use by 1370.
It is decorated with rows of rivets that originally retained a fabric covering.
The gauntlet is missing its scaled finger and thumb-defences."

With a distinctive flaring cuff that allows flexible wrist movement,
these gauntlets were thought to have hung over the effigy of Thomas Markenfield (died 1398)
in the north transept of Ripon Cathedral. It is likely that they were later appropriated for the nearby
funeral monument of Sir Edward Blackett (died 1718)." ...
