"THE COLUMBIAN MAMMOTH TABLEAU
The life-size sculptures of the family and mammoth depict a moment frozen in time.  Twelve thousand years ago, giant mammals -- remnants of the great Pleistocene megafauna -- roamed across Oklahoma.  Columbian mammoths would have been found on this very site.  At that time, people had arrived in Oklahoma and hunted the mammoths with stone weapons.  This scene depicts a chance encounter between the people and the mammoth.  What will be the outcome?"

"EARLY HUNTERS  The earliest inhabitants of Virginia lived at the end of the last Ice Age during the time of the great northern glaciers.
For thousands of years, small bands of people roamed the grass- and pine-covered land, hunting bison, elk, deer and small mammals, and gathering a variety of plants.  To bring down the game, butcher the carcasses, and dress the hides, they developed a wide array of stone tools.  A rapid environmental change occurred after 8,000 B.C.  The cold of the Ice Age gave way to a warmer, drier climate.  The people adapted to the oak and chestnut forests, relying more on plants, nuts, and fruits, and small animals including deer, rabbit, ,turkey, and fish.  Nurtured by a milder environment, populations grew rapidly."
